I've been getting a slight rear diff whine from 50mph and up. Been doing it for a few months now. Would a thicker gear oil help? I've been using Amsoil AGL 80W90 for the past several years. After a switch to Amsoil Severe Gear 75W110 there was no change in the whine. Would a mineral oil 8W090 be a good option to try,or maybe a synthetic 75W140? I've been doing a lot of research on the fundamentals of GL5 (EP) lubrication, and some sources say to either move to a mineral oil (since it has different characteristics than a synth) or to a 140 weight synth (but not to a 140 weight mineral). I have a document from Lubrizol saying an 80W90 mineral spec can be substituted with a 75W140 synthetic spec, but I was just wanting to get some opinions on this subject with anyone who has experience with this issue. Thanks in advance!
